-enjoy!

One of my favorite presser feet is the Automatic Buttonhole foot! I use this foot weekly... whether I am making tutu's or something for myself.  Here is a great tutorial by Bernina about this presser foot.

One of my favorite presser feet is the Automatic Buttonhole foot! I use this foot weekly... whether I am making tutus or something for myself.  Here is a great tutorial by BERNINA about this presser foot.

For  those of you with newer sewing machines, your foot will be 3A (A- Automatic, C- Coded for 9mm stitch plate.)

Step by step instructions:
Put presser foot #3A onto your Bernina and select the buttonhole stitch that you want.
To set the length adjust the red arrow on the right side of the foot to the length in which you want your buttonhole.  Begin to sew.  Once the needle reaches the desired end of your buttonhole, press and release the backstitch button.   This programs the foot so that it will now know the length.

Tips for the best most professional looking buttonholes

Use Mettler Fine Embroidery Cotton thread.  This beautiful cotton thread puffs up and fills in all the little spaces between buttonhole stitches.

Make sure you thread the eye of your bobbin, if your bobbin looks like this.

Also,
-Make sure your button hole foot is on a level surface.  This mechanism actually memorizes the stitch number... giving it a level surface will guarantee even stitches.

-Depending on the fabric, I sometimes will use lingerie thread by YLI from Studio BERNINA.

If you have a 9mm machine, make sure to use your Embroidery Bobbin Case.
